Alison_cassin_pic The Rural Economy Project and RIPPLE

Hi Everyone!

It seems like such a short time ago, but the Rural Economy Project that was first introduced on RIPPLE in March is drawing to a close. The project, a partnership between Rural Development Initiatives, Sustainable Northwest, the Oregon Consortium/Workforce Alliance, WorkSource Oregon, and Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB), with funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, has been showcasing the stories of successful entrepreneurs, people trying to make ends meet, and communities working to build stable, vital economies in Oregon’s rural towns.

Over the past several months we have been hearing from project bloggers Bruce Sorte, Lily Brislen, and Cassie Wieden about their thoughts on rural economic issues such as buying and thinking local, small town survival, and the restoration of rural economies. We have been sharing rural employment and small business resources, including statewide and local resources, best practices and tools, and news for small business owners, the unemployed, and economic developers. We have also been seeing video, audio, and written stories from the project partners, including dispatches from OPB in rural communities and home made videos from rural entrepreneurs.

Although the project is drawing to a close, Rural Economy Project resources and information can still be found here on RIPPLE and on OPB's Rural Economy Project web page, and we will be posting new stories, so look for more video and audio stories in the coming weeks. And remember, you can still share resources and add your voice to the conversation here on the RIPPLE blog, because rural does matter!
