Welcome!  And a freebie…

Hello and Welcome!

I am the fund development director at RDI.  I am your forum host.  I will help with questions and ideas, and periodically post funding and grant ideas...and other funding related topics on this discussion forum.  This is also a great spot to seek advice from peers on potential funders for your local projects.  You are most likely becoming skilled at approaching your local businesses to sponsor events or fund local projects.  But what about corporations, foundations, individuals?

My job here at RDI to seek funding for our work puts me in contact with many funders and I do a lot of research on funders, what they fund, where they fund, what their interest areas are, etc.  I write proposals for RDI, call businesses for sponsorships of our Regards to Rural Conference and auction, and I working to build an individual donor program.

So, please post your questions and ideas!  How did you make Big things happen in Small places?!  I hope you will post and we can begin sharing ideas across Oregon!

And, now for the “freebie” compliments of the US government.  For those of you who do not have cable or pay tv you might have heard wind of a big change coming next year.  Yes, television is going digital.  If you are like me, you twist and turn the rabbit ears, get out the tin foil, and try to get some kind of reception.  Well, without a new “TV converter” box, you won’t get anything.  So, what you can do is go to the website below and order your $40 coupons to go out and buy this gadgit.  It is easy!  I just did it.  You go to: https://www.dtv2009.gov/AboutProgram.aspx

They ask you a couple of questions and for your name and address and if you do not have cable or pay tv you will need the converter box (even if you have thrown out the rabbit ears in frustration).

Good Luck and I’ll meet you back here for shared tidbits on how to get those projects funded!  Kim

Hi, Kim~

This Forum will be a great resource, and it’s especially timely for those of us in Baker Co. Cohort II who are working on the Baker Hitches project.  We plan to craft and install public bike racks/ hitching posts in communities throughout the county.  The racks will incorporate an OR150 logo to commemorate the upcoming Sesquicentennial.

There are some grants available through Rural Development Initiatives’ “Take Care of Oregon Days”.  Information is available at http://www.oregon150.org.

If others know of additional sources, please post them --- we can use the help!

Hello Liz and other RIPPLE’rs -

This is great!  Thank you for sharing this resource on the Oregon 150 Project.

I’m thinking on community projects like your hitching post idea.

Many banks with branches in your community have community giving programs.  I’m going to share those in my next email!  Kim
