Leadership

RIPPLE’s Leadership page serves as a link to an array of information and services provided by Rural Development Initiatives (RDI), which are designed to develop leadership in diverse populations throughout the rural northwest. RDI is a catalyst for community vitality in rural areas. We work with community members to expand the knowledge, skills and networks needed to build community leadership.

RDI was established in 1992 as an independent, nonprofit spin-off from the Oregon Department of Economic and Community Development’s Community Initiatives Program. Building upon its early roots facilitating participatory strategic plans in depressed timber dependent communities, RDI today is an award-winning leader in rural community revitalization in the Northwest. We bring 15 years of on-the-ground experience in more than 250 rural communities in the Northwest, including collaborative work in six states and British Columbia. From this experience, RDI has a track record of successful adaptation and innovation to meet evolving issues for the communities we serve.

RDI has worked diligently to broaden the voices involved in discussions about community leadership, and to that end we have created leadership development training material for high school and college-aged youth, the economically disadvantaged, Tribal communities and Oregon’s Latino population.

We believe that the RIPPLE webpage can provide information and resources necessary to foster leadership in communities throughout the northwest. Please let us know if you have thoughts or suggestions that can make RIPPLE a better tool for rural community leaders.
