Recovery Act grant opportunity that can support public computing centers deadline is approaching soon. $150 million in grants are to be awarded to eligible projects through the "BTOP" program (Broadband Technology Opportunities Program) administered by the Department of Commerce's NTIA (National Telecommunications and Information Administration). Applications are due not later than March 15. Eligible BTOP purposes include: § Acquiring broadband-related equipment, instrumentation, networking capability, hardware and software, and digital network technology for broadband services § Installing or upgrading broadband facilities on a one-time, capital improvement, basis in order to increase broadband capacity; § Constructing, acquiring, or leasing a new facility may be included as an eligible cost category provided that the Applicant explains why it is necessary to construct, acquire, or lease a new facility to facilitate public access to broadband services or expand computer center capacity.
